Kidnapped businessman rescued, wanted Mozambican kidnapper fatally wounded

KEMPTON PARK - The South African Police Service (SAPS) Anti-Kidnapping Task Team has safely reunited an Indian businessman with his family following a shootout with an alleged mastermind behind the businessman’s kidnapping. The businessman was found in Alexandra in a shack shortly after midnight on Thursday, 04 September 2025. His rescue follows a shooting in which the alleged mastermind behind his kidnapping was shot and killed during confrontation with police officers near the R21 in Kempton Park on Wednesday evening. The suspect who goes by the nickname “Dollarman” is a wanted kidnapping kingpin in both SA and in Mozambique. He is on SERNIC which is Mozambique’s wanted persons database where he was a wanted for several kidnapping for ransoms cases. In SA he was also linked to at least five kidnapping for ransom cases as well as other cases of housebreaking, carjacking and possession of unlicensed firearms. Minister of Electricity to provide update on SA's electricity generation performance

PRETORIA - Minister of Electricity and Energy, Dr. Kgosientsho Ramokgopa , alongside Eskom, will provide an update on South Africa’s electricity generation performance today, Saturday, 8 March. The briefing will take place at GCIS, Tshedimosetso House, Hatfield from 12:00. This follows the implementation of Stage 3 loadshedding by Eskom from 14:00 yesterday (Friday, 7 March). It is anticipated to be in this mode until Monday at 05:00, following 98% availability of power supply, due to loss of 2700MW over the past 14 hours.  To replenish emergency reserves over the weekend –ongoing high levels of planned maintenance continue, said Eskom.

Eskom announces Stage 3 loadshedding until Monday

GAUTENG - Eskom has announced that Stage 3 loadshedding will be implemented from today at 14:00 until Monday, 10 March 2025 at 05:00.  This decision comes after a loss of 2700MW in the past 14 hours. This includes Koeberg Unit 2, which was taken offline after being brought back on Wednesday, and two Kusile Units whose coal operations went sub-optimal following adverse weather in the area. Higher levels of planned maintenance outages, aimed at winter preparation and meeting regulatory and environmental licensing requirements are still underway. The constrained capacity resulted in the increased reliance on emergency reserves during this week, which makes it necessary to focus on replenishing these critical resources during the weekend in preparation for the business week. SAPS confirm Solo Restaurant deadly shooting in Sandton

GAUTENG - The South African Police Service (SAPS) is investigating a case of murder and attempted murder following a shooting incident that claimed the lives of three people, leaving four injured last night, 6 March 2025 at a restaurant in Sandton. It is reported that, a man with a firearm wanted to enter the restaurant which a has a no firearm policy and that is when the altercation started leading to a shooting between the man's bodyguards and securities. Two of the bodyguards were declared dead on scene while five victims (The man, two patrons, a CPF member and a security guard) were taken to hospital with gun shot injuries and the man succumbed to his injuries at the hospital. Preliminary investigation revealed that the man who started this, has previously been arrested for a shooting incident also in Sandton last year. Currently no one has been arrested and police investigations continue.

Businessman Sphamandla Mabonga among killed in deadly restaurant shootout in Sandton

SANDTON - An evening out at Solo Restaurant in Sandton turned deadly when a shootout ensued leaving a prominent businessman dead. It is reported that businessman Sphamandla Mabonga, Londie London’s ex-lover,  was among the killed in shootout at Sandton nightclub last night, Wednesday, 6 March. The incident claimed the lives of three people , leaving four others injured. It is reported that the police have seized multiple firearms and are currently investigating without any arrests made.

SANDTON - President Cyril Ramaphosa addressed Microsoft South Africa's Investment Launch of R5.4bn to expand its Cloud and AI infrastructure in South Africa to meet the growing demand for Azure services in the SADC region. This investment builds on the company’s R 20.4bn investment over the past three years to establish the nation’s first enterprise-grade datacentres in Johannesburg and Cape Town.
