Heidelberg Correctional Facility raided by EST and SAPS

GAUTENG - On Monday, 8 December 2025, the Anti-Gang Unit (AGU), under the leadership of Lieutenant Colonel Arends, conducted a search operation at the Heidelberg Correctional Facility. This initiative was executed in collaboration with facility management, including the Communications Department, the Emergency Support Team (EST), and various units of the South African Police Service (SAPS). The operation involved the search of over 100 inmates, resulting in the confiscation of numerous illegal items, including cellphones, chargers, earphones, a laptop, cash, dagga, tattoo machines, and various grocery items. On Wednesday, 10 December 2025, the #AGU returned to the Boksburg Correctional Facility for another search of approximately 150 inmates, resulting in the seizure of contraband such as multiple cellphones, a mini hi-fi, chargers, a knife, various grocery items, dagga, and cash. SAPS NIU foil hijacking attempt of G20 hired vehicle- carjacker wounded

NASREC - As part of ongoing operations to ensure the smooth running of the G20 Leaders’ Summit, a brazen carjacker was wounded after a foiled hijacking attempt by the South African Police Service’s (SAPS) National Intervention Unit (NIU) on Friday evening, 21 November 2025. The brazen carjacker attempted to steal a vehicle that is allocated to the G20. At the time, the vehicle was transporting #NIU members who were conducting patrols in and around Johannesburg. While conducting patrols along Empire Road, the hijacker jumped onto the road and pointed a firearm at the driver. Unbeknown to him, the occupants of the vehicle were NIU members. A shot was fired by one of the NIU members towards the suspect, and he sustained a gunshot wound to the upper body. It was later discovered that the hijacker had used an imitation firearm. KZN COGTA MEC Places Disaster Management Teams on High Alert Following Severe Thunderstorm Warning

ULUNDI  — The KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (COGTA), Reverend Thulasizwe Buthelezi, has activated and placed all Provincial Disaster Management Teams on high alert. This follows the issuance of a Level 5 Weather Warning by the South African Weather Service (SAWS) for severe thunderstorms anticipated for Sunday, 23 November 2025, over the eThekwini Metropolitan Municipality and the uMgungundlovu and Ugu District Municipalities. The forecast indicates that these severe thunderstorms carry a high probability of hail, heavy rainfall that may lead to localised flooding, and damaging winds. The Provincial Disaster Management Centre (PDMC) is actively monitoring the weather situation and coordinating response efforts across all affected areas. TRAGIC: Carnage outside Silverstar Casino, onlookers warned against sharing footage

KRUGERSDORP - Onlookers have been warned from sharing footage from a major accident outside Silverstar Casino this morning.  It has been reported that a truck lost its brakes and crashed into multiple vehicles, with at least 20 vehicles involved. Emergency services were being notified and response efforts are underway. Motorists have been urged to avoid the area and allow space for emergency vehicles to operate.

Day 1 G20 Road Closures: Joburg motorists advised to plan trips ahead

SANDTON - As Day 1 of the G20 Summit begins, major routes are expected to be affected as local and international dignitaries make their way to the summit. Vision Tactical says its Mobile Command is monitoring increased convoy activity and security-related closures across Johannesburg this morning. Expect delays on the following major routes: • N1 – intermittent closures and lane restrictions • M1 – significant traffic disruptions expected • N12 – rolling closures throughout the day Furthermore, roads will be closed this morning around 07h45 include: 1. JMPD concern about spike in Drunk Driving behaviour

JOHANNESBURG  - The Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) confirms a significant and concerning number of arrests for Driving Under the Influence (DUI) of alcohol during an intensified week of operations across the City of Johannesburg. Between Monday, 10th November 2025, and Sunday, 16th November 2025, JMPD officers apprehended a total of 137 motorists for operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol. These arrests were the result of proactive patrols and high-visibility roadblocks conducted across all regions of the city, targeting areas with a high incidence of alcohol-related crashes. All arrested suspects have been detained and will be processed through the judicial system to face serious charges of driving under the influence of alcohol. SAPS conduct multidisciplinary roadblock ahead of festive season

FREE STATE - The South African Police Service (SAPS) in the Lejweleputswa District conducted a #SaferFestiveSeason operation today, 17 November 2025. The operation commenced with a multidisciplinary roadblock held on the N1 Road, near Ventersburg.  The operation was held alongside other stakeholders, including the Department of Home Affairs and Free State Provincial Traffic. The operation was led by Lt Colonel Botsane. The objective of the operation was to conduct stop and searches for unlawful goods, ensure road safety, and compliance for undocumented persons. During the operation, officials interacted with motorists while providing crime prevention and safety tips. Business compliance checks were also conducted at various liquor establishments, in the Ventersburg area during the operation.

FATAL: Multiple trucks collide on wet N3 highway

DURBAN - A collision involving multiple trucks has claimed the life of one driver on Sunday, 16 November. The fatal collision occurred on the N3 Durban bound, near Warwick. Motorists are urged to exercise extreme caution due to rain across the province. To avoid deadly crashes, please: – Reduce speed on slippery roads – Maintain a safe following distance – Ensure wipers are working properly – Keep lights on for increased visibility – Avoid flooded areas and overflowing river bridges Plan ahead, consider alternative routes, and drive during the day if possible. Be extra cautious of roadworks on N4, N11, N2, and R40, as rain can make them more hazardous, govt authorities cautioned.
