Kidnapped businessman rescued, wanted Mozambican kidnapper fatally wounded

KEMPTON PARK - The South African Police Service (SAPS) Anti-Kidnapping Task Team has safely reunited an Indian businessman with his family following a shootout with an alleged mastermind behind the businessman’s kidnapping. The businessman was found in Alexandra in a shack shortly after midnight on Thursday, 04 September 2025. His rescue follows a shooting in which the alleged mastermind behind his kidnapping was shot and killed during confrontation with police officers near the R21 in Kempton Park on Wednesday evening. The suspect who goes by the nickname “Dollarman” is a wanted kidnapping kingpin in both SA and in Mozambique. He is on SERNIC which is Mozambique’s wanted persons database where he was a wanted for several kidnapping for ransoms cases. In SA he was also linked to at least five kidnapping for ransom cases as well as other cases of housebreaking, carjacking and possession of unlicensed firearms. President Cyril Ramaphosa hails Microsoft's investment launch of R5.4bn


SANDTON - President Cyril Ramaphosa addressed Microsoft South Africa's Investment Launch of R5.4bn to expand its Cloud and AI infrastructure in South Africa to meet the growing demand for Azure services in the SADC region.

This investment builds on the company’s R 20.4bn investment over the past three years to establish the nation’s first enterprise-grade datacentres in Johannesburg and Cape Town.


President Ramaphosa commended Microsoft’s plans to train one million South Africans in AI skills, machine learning and cybersecurity by 2026 and outlined that South Africa is developing a National AI Policy that seeks to position South Africa as a leader in AI innovation, while at the same time addressing its ethical, economic and societal implications.

Microsoft’s commitment to supporting South Africa’s transition to a high-tech economy comes at a pivotal time, when South Africa is hosting the G20
 
Using AI for sustainable development is among the priorities of #G20SouthAfrica’s Presidency.
