Kaizer Chiefs Chairman befittingly conferred with Wits Honorary Doctorate

JOHANNESBURG - In recognition of his substantial contribution to South Africa’s business landscape over many decades, Kaizer Chiefs Executive Chairman, Dr. Kaizer Motaung, was bestowed with a second honorary doctorate on Tuesday, this time by Wits University’s Faculty of Commerce, Law and Management. Motaung, a successful businessperson, soccer administrator and philanthropist, delivered a speech that struck a chord with graduates from the Faculty of Commerce, Law and Management. He delivered his address after Wits University awarded him an Honorary Doctorate in Commerce on 15 July at the Wits Great Hall. This honour acknowledges his role in the betterment of South African society, the development of soccer in the country, and uplifting disadvantaged youth, amongst others. Gauteng sees a rise in shackfires over cold season

GAUTENG - Gauteng is seeing a rise in shackfires as temperatures continue to drop Winter coldfronts have forced residents to use heating devices, in some cases unregulated and unsafe equipment. As a result, the province has witnessed an increase in fatal shackfires in informal settlements. On the East Rand, a 22-year-old male and a 2-year-old toddler died in a shack fire in Arla Park Ext 3, Nigel, while an 8-year-old child escaped with minor burn injuries on 30 June. On 2 July, a man believed to be in his 30s has died in a multiple shack fire that occurred in the early hours of this morning in the Makausi informal settlement near Primrose. According to Kasie FM News 91.7, a total of eight shacks burnt down, and in that inferno, a partially burnt body of an adult male was discovered in one of the shacks.   Due to the coldfront, Disaster Management Services accross the provincr remain on high alert for fire incicents.  City of Joburg EMS also urged residents to...

CAPE TOWN - "In order for the Commission to execute its functions effectively, I have decided to put the Minister of Police Mr Senzo Mchunu on a leave of absence with immediate effect," said President Cyril Ramaphosa after establishing a Judicial Commission of Inquiry into the crimes and leadership of various institutions implicated in the claims made by KZN Commissioner Lt Gen Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi. Ramaphosa said Mchunu has undertaken to give his full cooperation to the Commission to enable it to do its work. "I have decided to appoint Professor Firoz Cachalia as acting Minister of Police," he said. ABOUT THE ACTING POLICE MINISTER   Professor Cachalia is currently a professor of law at the University of the Witwatersrand and is the chairperson of the National Anti-Corruption Advisory Council. He previously served as an MEC of Community Safety in Gauteng.

KWAZULU-NATAL - Founder of Gift of the Givers, Dr Imtiaz Sooliman has defended KZN Police Commissioner, Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi after he made explosive claims about Minister, Senzo Mchunu. During a media briefing, Mkhwanazi made several startling revelations, accusing senior police leadership, including Mchunu, of interfering in investigations into politically motivated killings, corruption, and collusion with criminal networks. Mchunu has denied all allegations against him. Dr Sooliman met with General Mkhwanazi to get a better perspective about his claims. PRETORIA - President Cyril Ramaphosa will on Sunday, 13 July 2025, address the nation on developments arising from a public statement by KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner, Lt-Gen Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi, that details allegations against senior political and South African Police Service leadership. President Ramaphosa was attending the BRICS Summit in Brazil on Sunday, 6 July 2025, when General Mkhwanazi outlined numerous allegations at a media briefing. The President undertook to attend to this development on his return from Brazil, in view of the implications for national security. President Ramaphosa has been seized with this matter in recent days and will, following various consultations, take the nation into his confidence at 19h00 on Sunday, 13 July 2025. The President’s message will be broadcast and streamed on various platforms.
