Kaizer Chiefs Chairman befittingly conferred with Wits Honorary Doctorate

JOHANNESBURG - In recognition of his substantial contribution to South Africa’s business landscape over many decades, Kaizer Chiefs Executive Chairman, Dr. Kaizer Motaung, was bestowed with a second honorary doctorate on Tuesday, this time by Wits University’s Faculty of Commerce, Law and Management. Motaung, a successful businessperson, soccer administrator and philanthropist, delivered a speech that struck a chord with graduates from the Faculty of Commerce, Law and Management. He delivered his address after Wits University awarded him an Honorary Doctorate in Commerce on 15 July at the Wits Great Hall. This honour acknowledges his role in the betterment of South African society, the development of soccer in the country, and uplifting disadvantaged youth, amongst others. JUST IN: Main suspect in #OloratoMongale murder case shot dead by KZN police

KWAZULU-NATAL - Police have reportedly shot and killed the main suspect in the murder of Olorato Mongale in KwaZulu-Natal. According to SABC news, Philangenkosi Makhanya was found by the police in Amanzimtoti, south of Durban. It’s believed he shot at police, who returned fire. Makhanya, together with two other suspects, Fezile Ngubane and Bongani Mthimkhulu, were wanted in connection with Mongale’s murder. Mongale, a journalism graduate, was murdered after going on a new date with man known to her as John. Her body was discovered near Alexandra township, in northern Johannesburg, last Sunday.

JOHANNESBURG - Renowned South African actor Presley Oageng Chweneyagae has passed away at the age of 40. Popularly known for his role on Tsotsi, a Oscar winning film and Emmy nominee, reports about Chweneyagae's passing were confirmed this morning. Cobrizi, also character his also popularly known for has began receiving tribute messages as fans reflect on the role his made in shaping the television industry in South Africa. Funeral details are yet to be released by the family or management soon.

Two survive terrific collision involving a truck

BALLITO - Two individuals survived a terrific collision involving a truck this past weekend. On Saturday evening (24 May), IPSS Medical Rescue responded to reports of a light motor vehicle, which had crashed into a sugar cane truck, on the R102 near Ballito. One occupant of the light motor vehicle sustained serious injuries, with another luckily escaping with minor injuries.  Patients were stabilised on scene before being transported to hospital for further care. The truck driver was uninjured in the collision.

Drug trafficker arrested with R1.4m cocaine wrapped around his legs at OR Tambo Airport

KEMPTON PARK - A 39-year-old drug trafficker was arrested on arrival from São Paulo at the OR Tambo International Airport on Friday morning. The Brazilian national landed at 09:00 from São Paulo and was in transit to Benin when he was intercepted by police officers at the Airport. He was pulled aside and during a body search, cocaine was found wrapped around his legs. He has been arrested and is expected to appear before the Kempton Park Magistrates Court on a charge of drug trafficking.
