Kidnapped businessman rescued, wanted Mozambican kidnapper fatally wounded

KEMPTON PARK - The South African Police Service (SAPS) Anti-Kidnapping Task Team has safely reunited an Indian businessman with his family following a shootout with an alleged mastermind behind the businessman’s kidnapping. The businessman was found in Alexandra in a shack shortly after midnight on Thursday, 04 September 2025. His rescue follows a shooting in which the alleged mastermind behind his kidnapping was shot and killed during confrontation with police officers near the R21 in Kempton Park on Wednesday evening. The suspect who goes by the nickname “Dollarman” is a wanted kidnapping kingpin in both SA and in Mozambique. He is on SERNIC which is Mozambique’s wanted persons database where he was a wanted for several kidnapping for ransoms cases. In SA he was also linked to at least five kidnapping for ransom cases as well as other cases of housebreaking, carjacking and possession of unlicensed firearms. WSU students arrested for causing mayhem on campus


MTHATHA - The South African Police Service (SAPS) confirms the arrest of five (5) students following protest actions at Walter Sisulu University’s Nelson Mandela Drive Campus on 4 June 2025. 

The detained students will appear before the Mthatha Magistrates' Court today, 5 June 2025, facing the following charges: 

   - Arson 

   - Public Violence 

   - Malicious Injury to Property (MITP) 

   - Assault with Intent to Cause Grievous   Bodily Harm (Assault GBH) 

Four (4) SAPS members sustained injuries during the execution of their duties. They were treated and released yesterday.

The campus and surrounding areas (including Nelson Mandela Drive) are stable and secure.  No further protest activity has been reported this morning.  SAPS Public Order Policing (POP) units remain deployed to monitor the situation. 

The SAPS reiterates its commitment to maintaining public order and protecting all citizens.  Acts of violence, destruction of property, and attacks on law abiding citizens will be dealt appropriately.  We urge students and community members to pursue grievances through lawful channels. 

SAPS calls for calm and warns against any further disruptions. Those planning illegal gatherings will face swift legal action.
