DURBAN - The Provincial Commissioner of KwaZulu-Natal Lieutenant General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi has ordered that disciplinary steps be taken against a police officer who was captured on a viral video driving a marked police vehicle without the driver's door. Although the video only went viral on social media on Monday, the video was taken on Sunday, 1 June 2025. The police vehicle was involved in an accident in the Durban North policing precincts where it collided with a minibus taxi. The driver at the time of the accident was a female Warrant Officer who was trapped inside the vehicle, and the door had to be removed to rescue her. Without the door, although in a drivable condition, the vehicle should have been towed back to the police station. Instead of following prescribed procedures, another driver, also a Warrant Officer, drove the vehicle to the station, endangering his life and putting the name and the image of the South African Police Service into disrepute. Overloaded learners spark panic and warning from Joburg Public Safety office

JOHANNESBURG - Parents and guardians have been urged to prioritise the safety of their children when making use of scholar transport services.

This after the Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) stopped an overloaded scholar transport which hindered the safety of the scholars who were packed on top of each other.

"JMPD is conducting strict enforcement at school points. Any driver found overloading children will face immediate fines and possible vehicle impoundment in line with road safety regulations," warned MMC for Public Safety Councillor Dr Mgcini Tshwaku.
