Kidnapped businessman rescued, wanted Mozambican kidnapper fatally wounded

KEMPTON PARK - The South African Police Service (SAPS) Anti-Kidnapping Task Team has safely reunited an Indian businessman with his family following a shootout with an alleged mastermind behind the businessman’s kidnapping. The businessman was found in Alexandra in a shack shortly after midnight on Thursday, 04 September 2025. His rescue follows a shooting in which the alleged mastermind behind his kidnapping was shot and killed during confrontation with police officers near the R21 in Kempton Park on Wednesday evening. The suspect who goes by the nickname “Dollarman” is a wanted kidnapping kingpin in both SA and in Mozambique. He is on SERNIC which is Mozambique’s wanted persons database where he was a wanted for several kidnapping for ransoms cases. In SA he was also linked to at least five kidnapping for ransom cases as well as other cases of housebreaking, carjacking and possession of unlicensed firearms. Mother's Day tragedy: Tow truck collision ends nine lives

EMPANGENI - A tow truck rear-ended a bakkie, resulting in nine people perishing in a horrific accident in Empangeni, north of KwaZulu-Natal this morning (Mother's Day).

Public Statement by the MEC for Transport and Human Settlements Siboniso Duma reads:
On this Mother’s Day, early this morning around 06h47, I received a report from our highly dedicated team from Road Traffic Inspectorate informing me about a horrific accident that claimed the lives of nine people, mostly mothers.

Losing a mother is a deeply painful experience that marks the radical change of the family’s life and involves a wide range of sad emotions.

According to a preliminary report, this accident, which happened along the N2 Northbound after Mthunzini Toll Plaza, involved a tow truck and a Hyundai H-1 which was transporting 24 members of the Zion Christian Church. 

They were travelling to Dukuduku, Umtubatuba.
