Kidnapped businessman rescued, wanted Mozambican kidnapper fatally wounded

KEMPTON PARK - The South African Police Service (SAPS) Anti-Kidnapping Task Team has safely reunited an Indian businessman with his family following a shootout with an alleged mastermind behind the businessman’s kidnapping. The businessman was found in Alexandra in a shack shortly after midnight on Thursday, 04 September 2025. His rescue follows a shooting in which the alleged mastermind behind his kidnapping was shot and killed during confrontation with police officers near the R21 in Kempton Park on Wednesday evening. The suspect who goes by the nickname “Dollarman” is a wanted kidnapping kingpin in both SA and in Mozambique. He is on SERNIC which is Mozambique’s wanted persons database where he was a wanted for several kidnapping for ransoms cases. In SA he was also linked to at least five kidnapping for ransom cases as well as other cases of housebreaking, carjacking and possession of unlicensed firearms. SABC apologises to Afrikaans communities for bulletin error

AUCKLAND PARK - The South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) has addressed the worrying glitch that resulted in the abrupt halt of the Afrikaans bulletin.

The SABC  reaffirmed that the Afrikaans news has not been discontinued.

Afrikaans News currently broadcasts at 20:30 Mondays – Fridays on S3.
Weekend Afrikaans bulletins will continue in their current time slot, 18:00 on Saturdays and Sundays on SABC 2.

"The SABC remains committed to all languages as part of its constitutional and public service mandate. As management, we are treating this matter with the seriousness it deserves, and consequence management processes are currently underway to address the internal oversight that led to this unfortunate incident.
"We acknowledge the deep concern this weekend’s error has caused, particularly within Afrikaans-speaking communities. We extend our sincere and heartfelt apology to the South African public, and especially to those who felt aggrieved by this disruption," the public broadcaster said in a statement.

KEMPTON PARK - Thabani Goodwill Ntshalintshali (40), accused of the murder of City of Ekurhuleni Senior Auditor Mpho Mafole, appeared in the Kempton Park Magistrates’ Court on a charge of Murder. The case has been postponed to 15 August 2025 for further investigation. The State alleges that, on 30 June 2025 in Kempton Park, the deceased was allegedly followed after attending a work-related meeting on the day of the incident. He was shot and declared dead at the scene. A witness later informed police about a suspicious vehicle in the area, which led authorities to launch an investigation that eventually pointed to the accused. Ntshalintshali is also facing another pending murder case scheduled for trial on 12 and 19 August 2025. Due to this outstanding case, the State will oppose the bail application. The investigation is ongoing and further arrests cannot be ruled out. The accused remains in custody until his next court appearance.

Upgrade of Muizenberg beachfront starts this month

CAPE TOWN - The City of Cape Town wants to alert the public that the refurbishment of the Muizenberg beachfront will commence next week.  The contractor will establish the site camp and work areas as from Monday, 3 February 2025, and effect the closure of the impacted sections on the western side of Surfer’s Corner the following week, if all goes as planned. The informal gravel parking area next to the railway line will be closed to the public, as will access to and from the St James Walkway from Surfer’s Corner. Joggers and walkers wanting to access the walkway will be redirected with detour signage to and from the underpass at Bailey’s Cottage and the rail level crossing at the beachfront. The refurbishment of the Muizenberg beachfront entails major upgrades to public amenities and replacing the aged seawalls. Home Affairs detains Ms Chidimma Adetshina’s mother in Cape Town

 CAPE TOWN - Investigators from the Department of Home Affairs, assisted by the South African Police Service (SAPS), this morning detained Ms Anabela Rungo, the mother of Ms Chidimma Adetshina (pictured), at a property in Cape Town. The Department withdrew Ms Rungo’s South African documentation in September 2024 after finding that it had been fraudulently obtained, rendering her ineligible to continue residing in South Africa. In an apparent act of brazen disregard for the legal consequences of her conduct, it appears that Ms Rungo has defied her “undesirable” status through her Mozambican passport. Investigations are ongoing into further potential misrepresentation and fraudulent conduct.
