Kidnapped businessman rescued, wanted Mozambican kidnapper fatally wounded

KEMPTON PARK - The South African Police Service (SAPS) Anti-Kidnapping Task Team has safely reunited an Indian businessman with his family following a shootout with an alleged mastermind behind the businessman’s kidnapping. The businessman was found in Alexandra in a shack shortly after midnight on Thursday, 04 September 2025. His rescue follows a shooting in which the alleged mastermind behind his kidnapping was shot and killed during confrontation with police officers near the R21 in Kempton Park on Wednesday evening. The suspect who goes by the nickname “Dollarman” is a wanted kidnapping kingpin in both SA and in Mozambique. He is on SERNIC which is Mozambique’s wanted persons database where he was a wanted for several kidnapping for ransoms cases. In SA he was also linked to at least five kidnapping for ransom cases as well as other cases of housebreaking, carjacking and possession of unlicensed firearms. RIP: KZNCOGTA MEC condemns murder of Induna Gwala


ULUNDI - The Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (COGTA), MEC, Reverend Thulasizwe Buthelezi, has condemned the assassination of Induna Aaron Gwala, which occurred on Sunday in the eMaphephetheni, in ward 2 eThekwini.

Reports indicate that unknown assailants attacked Induna Gwala at his residence, resulting in his death.

MEC Buthelezi has expressed his shock and sadness at this act of violence. "We are saddened and outraged by the murder of Induna Gwala. He was a hardworking Induna who served the Gwala Traditional Authority with diligence and was a dependable supporter of Inkosi" said MEC Buthelezi.

The MEC extended his condolences to Inkosi Thandizwe Frank Gwala and the entire Gwala traditional community on the loss of a leader.

 "Induna Gwala consistently prioritised the interest of his community, and his absence will be felt," added MEC Buthelezi.

MEC Buthelezi has called upon law enforcement agencies to conduct a thorough investigation into this crime and ensure that the perpetrators are apprehended and brought to justice. "We urge the police to leave no stone unturned in their quest to find those responsible for this act," he emphasised.
