JUST IN: Truck crash and diesel spillage cause total road closure of N1

JOHANNESURG - Following the earlier motor vehicle accident involving two trucks on the N1 South before Maraisburg Road, the Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) has confirmedt that all lanes of the N1 South are closed to traffic. According to JMPD, this closure is necessary to allow emergency personnel to safely manage the scene and clear the diesel spillage and overturned vehicle. "Three slight injuries have been reported, and one of the trucks has overturned, spilling diesel. Emergency personnel and Law Enforcement are on scene, and initially, three lanes were affected and closed off, causing heavy delays. "All lanes of the N1 South are currently closed before Maraisburg Road. Vehicles are being diverted at Gordon Road. Significant and heavy traffic congestion is being experienced on the N1 South and surrounding areas," said JMPD. GRAPHIC: Fatal collision claims three lives in Gauteng

REIGER PARK - The Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department  (EMPD) has confirmed that on Sunday, 13 April 2025, three males driving in a VW Polo hatchback, were declared dead on scene after a head-on crash with Toyota Quantum taxi, resulting in eight taxi occupants being hospitalised.  

Rescue team from the City of Ekurhuleni Disaster and Emergency Management Services (DEMS) responded promptly to the scene for intervention. The incident happened on Commissioner Road, just outside Reiger Park. 

Rescuers had to use specialized hydraulic equipment (Jaws of Life) to cut both vehicles to access both drivers who were found trapped behind steering wheels. All three (3) occupants of the hatchback VW polo were declared dead and from the Toyota Quantum taxi, four(4) sustained critical injuries, driver inclusive, three(3) other passengers sustained serious but were in stable conditions, and the last four escaped with minor injuries.

GRAPHIC: Pitbull stabbed to death after attacking its owners, injuring four family members

DURBAN - A family Pitbull was stabbed in the chest after it attacked four members of a family aged between 10 and 76. Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) received several  frantic calls for immediate assistance from residents from Tottenham Road in Parkgate about. 17:41 on Friday afternoon.  Reaction Officers and Paramedics converged on the scene and  found four people that had suffered extensive injuries and blood loss after being attacked by a 2.5 year old Pitbull named Patches. Paramedics stabalized and expedited the injured to a local hospital.  Reaction Officers found Patches on the premise with a stab wound to the chest. Eleven suspects intercepted for illegal mining in Gauteng

KINSGWAY - The Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD) Intervention Unit Officers in conjunction with EMPD K9 Unit Officers, arrested 11 undocumented foreign nationals males between the ages of twenty (20) and fifty(50) years old, for illegal mining and contravention of the Immigration Act in the Kingsway area on Tuesday, 7 May.   According to EMPD, Officers carried out a sting operation as part to help curb the high number of illegal mining activities in the City of Ekurhuleni.
