JUST IN: Truck crash and diesel spillage cause total road closure of N1

JOHANNESURG - Following the earlier motor vehicle accident involving two trucks on the N1 South before Maraisburg Road, the Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) has confirmedt that all lanes of the N1 South are closed to traffic. According to JMPD, this closure is necessary to allow emergency personnel to safely manage the scene and clear the diesel spillage and overturned vehicle. "Three slight injuries have been reported, and one of the trucks has overturned, spilling diesel. Emergency personnel and Law Enforcement are on scene, and initially, three lanes were affected and closed off, causing heavy delays. "All lanes of the N1 South are currently closed before Maraisburg Road. Vehicles are being diverted at Gordon Road. Significant and heavy traffic congestion is being experienced on the N1 South and surrounding areas," said JMPD. Comrades Marathon announces official down run and distance

PIETERMARITZBURG - The Comrades Marathon Association (CMA) is pleased to officially announce that the route distance for the highly anticipated 98th edition of The Ultimate Human Race is a challenging 89.98km. 

This will be the 49th Down Run, taking place on Sunday 8 June, with the race starting at the Pietermaritzburg City Hall and finishing 12 hours later with a street finish outside Durban’s People’s Park.

The 2025 race will be slightly longer than the 87.701km of the previous Down Run (2023), as the finish has been moved from the Hollywoodbets Kingsmead Cricket Stadium to an exciting new street finish outside People’s Park, in the northbound lanes of Masabalala Yengwa Avenue. This will include a finish-line grandstand for spectators erected in the southbound lanes of Masabalala Yengwa Avenue, as well as a hospitality and entertainment area in People’s Park, and space allocated for running club tents on either side of the finish.

The longest Down Run in the history of the Comrades was 92km in 1971.

DURBAN - A family Pitbull was stabbed in the chest after it attacked four members of a family aged between 10 and 76. Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) received several  frantic calls for immediate assistance from residents from Tottenham Road in Parkgate about. 17:41 on Friday afternoon.  Reaction Officers and Paramedics converged on the scene and  found four people that had suffered extensive injuries and blood loss after being attacked by a 2.5 year old Pitbull named Patches. Paramedics stabalized and expedited the injured to a local hospital.  Reaction Officers found Patches on the premise with a stab wound to the chest. The Pitbull was still breathing and immediate assistance was sought from the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) to assist the animal.  According to witnesses, the family was preparing meals to break fast when the Pitbull attacked the 10 year old child. Eleven suspects intercepted for illegal mining in Gauteng

KINSGWAY - The Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD) Intervention Unit Officers in conjunction with EMPD K9 Unit Officers, arrested 11 undocumented foreign nationals males between the ages of twenty (20) and fifty(50) years old, for illegal mining and contravention of the Immigration Act in the Kingsway area on Tuesday, 7 May.   According to EMPD, Officers carried out a sting operation as part to help curb the high number of illegal mining activities in the City of Ekurhuleni.
