Kidnapped businessman rescued, wanted Mozambican kidnapper fatally wounded

KEMPTON PARK - The South African Police Service (SAPS) Anti-Kidnapping Task Team has safely reunited an Indian businessman with his family following a shootout with an alleged mastermind behind the businessman’s kidnapping. The businessman was found in Alexandra in a shack shortly after midnight on Thursday, 04 September 2025. His rescue follows a shooting in which the alleged mastermind behind his kidnapping was shot and killed during confrontation with police officers near the R21 in Kempton Park on Wednesday evening. The suspect who goes by the nickname “Dollarman” is a wanted kidnapping kingpin in both SA and in Mozambique. He is on SERNIC which is Mozambique’s wanted persons database where he was a wanted for several kidnapping for ransoms cases. In SA he was also linked to at least five kidnapping for ransom cases as well as other cases of housebreaking, carjacking and possession of unlicensed firearms. Zimbabwean man appears in court for Soshanguve informal settlement killings


PRETORIA - Two men, 27-year-old Zimbabwean national and a 50-year-old man, appeared at the Pretoria North Magistrates’ Court on 26 March

Both are facing a charge of possession of unlicenced firearm and possession of ammunition. The 27-year-old man is facing an additional charge of being illegal in the country.   

On 24 March 2025, the two were arrested separately by police after being found with unlawful possession of firearm and possession of ammunition in Soshanguve Extension 6 and Extension 20. The arrest comes after police were investigating the incident where patrol members were killed in Soshanguve, informal settlement (Merry Me).  

In court, the 27-year-old told the court that he intends to provisionally abandon his bail application while the 50-year-old told the court of his intention to apply for bail.  

The matter was postponed to 01 April 2025 for further investigations and bail information.
