Kidnapped businessman rescued, wanted Mozambican kidnapper fatally wounded

KEMPTON PARK - The South African Police Service (SAPS) Anti-Kidnapping Task Team has safely reunited an Indian businessman with his family following a shootout with an alleged mastermind behind the businessman’s kidnapping. The businessman was found in Alexandra in a shack shortly after midnight on Thursday, 04 September 2025. His rescue follows a shooting in which the alleged mastermind behind his kidnapping was shot and killed during confrontation with police officers near the R21 in Kempton Park on Wednesday evening. The suspect who goes by the nickname “Dollarman” is a wanted kidnapping kingpin in both SA and in Mozambique. He is on SERNIC which is Mozambique’s wanted persons database where he was a wanted for several kidnapping for ransoms cases. In SA he was also linked to at least five kidnapping for ransom cases as well as other cases of housebreaking, carjacking and possession of unlicensed firearms. TRAGIC: Fatal crash involving minibus taxi claims one life, several injured

DURBAN- A devastating crash occurred on the evening of Saturday, March 8, 2025, at the junction of Northcoast Road and Nandi Drive, north of Durban. 

Emergency services were quick to respond to the scene, where a fully laden taxi and a bakkie collided, resulting in chaos. The severity of the impact led to some individuals being ejected from the vehicles.

KZNVIP Medics, upon assessment, found one female, believed to be in her 40s, severely entrapped in the wreckage of the bakkie. Tragically, she had sustained fatal injuries and was declared deceased at the scene. The Ethekweni Fire Department used the Jaws of Life to extricate her from the wreckage.

In addition to the fatality, three other individuals sustained critical injuries, and approximately eighteen others suffered moderate injuries. All injured persons were stabilized at the scene before being transported to various Durban hospitals for further care.

The cause of the crash is currently unknown, with the South African Police Service (SAPS) in attendance to conduct an investigation. The events leading up to the collision are still under review.

"This tragic incident serves as a sobering reminder of the importance of road safety. We urge all road users to exercise caution, follow traffic laws, and prioritize safety on the roads.
