JUST IN: Truck crash and diesel spillage cause total road closure of N1

JOHANNESURG - Following the earlier motor vehicle accident involving two trucks on the N1 South before Maraisburg Road, the Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) has confirmedt that all lanes of the N1 South are closed to traffic. According to JMPD, this closure is necessary to allow emergency personnel to safely manage the scene and clear the diesel spillage and overturned vehicle. "Three slight injuries have been reported, and one of the trucks has overturned, spilling diesel. Emergency personnel and Law Enforcement are on scene, and initially, three lanes were affected and closed off, causing heavy delays. "All lanes of the N1 South are currently closed before Maraisburg Road. Vehicles are being diverted at Gordon Road. Significant and heavy traffic congestion is being experienced on the N1 South and surrounding areas," said JMPD. TRAGIC: Fatal crash involving minibus taxi claims one life, several injured

DURBAN- A devastating crash occurred on the evening of Saturday, March 8, 2025, at the junction of Northcoast Road and Nandi Drive, north of Durban. 

Emergency services were quick to respond to the scene, where a fully laden taxi and a bakkie collided, resulting in chaos. The severity of the impact led to some individuals being ejected from the vehicles.

KZNVIP Medics, upon assessment, found one female, believed to be in her 40s, severely entrapped in the wreckage of the bakkie. Tragically, she had sustained fatal injuries and was declared deceased at the scene. The Ethekweni Fire Department used the Jaws of Life to extricate her from the wreckage.

In addition to the fatality, three other individuals sustained critical injuries, and approximately eighteen others suffered moderate injuries. All injured persons were stabilized at the scene before being transported to various Durban hospitals for further care.

The cause of the crash is currently unknown, with the South African Police Service (SAPS) in attendance to conduct an investigation. The events leading up to the collision are still under review.

"This tragic incident serves as a sobering reminder of the importance of road safety. We urge all road users to exercise caution, follow traffic laws, and prioritize safety on the roads.
