JUST IN: Truck crash and diesel spillage cause total road closure of N1

JOHANNESURG - Following the earlier motor vehicle accident involving two trucks on the N1 South before Maraisburg Road, the Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) has confirmedt that all lanes of the N1 South are closed to traffic. According to JMPD, this closure is necessary to allow emergency personnel to safely manage the scene and clear the diesel spillage and overturned vehicle. "Three slight injuries have been reported, and one of the trucks has overturned, spilling diesel. Emergency personnel and Law Enforcement are on scene, and initially, three lanes were affected and closed off, causing heavy delays. "All lanes of the N1 South are currently closed before Maraisburg Road. Vehicles are being diverted at Gordon Road. Significant and heavy traffic congestion is being experienced on the N1 South and surrounding areas," said JMPD. Replacement of SASSA Gold Cards continues beyond past deadline


 
PRETORIA - The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) and Postbank have reiterated that the SASSA gold card have stopped working since the deadline on 20 March 2025; however, migration continues for all beneficiaries.
 
"The programme to migrate to Postbank black cards has not stopped, only the SASSA gold card will stop working.
 Therefore, all SASSA beneficiaries using gold cards who have not migrated to Postbank black cards are urged to continue visiting Postbank sites at Shoprite, Checkers, Usave, Pick n Pay, Boxer and Spar to change as soon as possible. They can also dial *120*355# to find places where they can replace cards," the department advised.
 
SASSA and Postbank have assured beneficiaries that they will receive their grant even if they have not yet migrated, but through an alternative payment method at  Post Office counters.
