JUST IN: Truck crash and diesel spillage cause total road closure of N1

JOHANNESURG - Following the earlier motor vehicle accident involving two trucks on the N1 South before Maraisburg Road, the Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) has confirmedt that all lanes of the N1 South are closed to traffic. According to JMPD, this closure is necessary to allow emergency personnel to safely manage the scene and clear the diesel spillage and overturned vehicle. "Three slight injuries have been reported, and one of the trucks has overturned, spilling diesel. Emergency personnel and Law Enforcement are on scene, and initially, three lanes were affected and closed off, causing heavy delays. "All lanes of the N1 South are currently closed before Maraisburg Road. Vehicles are being diverted at Gordon Road. Significant and heavy traffic congestion is being experienced on the N1 South and surrounding areas," said JMPD. Alleged murder suspect arrested within 24 hours in Harrismith


FREE STATE - Harrismith Public Order Police arrested a wanted murder suspect at Harrismith following the shooting and killing of person on Saturday, 22 March 2025, at Intabazwe.

It's alleged that on Saturday, 22 March 2025 at about 00:45, there was shooting at a certain tavern on McKechnie Street in Harrismith, where a person was allegedly shot with a firearm by a known suspect who also fled the crime scene on foot. The injured person was also rushed to a local hospital with a private vehicle where he was declared dead on arrival.

It's further alleged that the deceased and suspect had an argument earlier. It's not yet clear what their argument was all about that led to the shooting. He sustained bullet wounds on the chest. A case of murder is being investigated.

The same day between 11:00 and 16:00, an intelligence-driven operation was conducted following the alleged murder and whereabouts of the suspect by Harrismith POP. The suspect was traced and found at a local shebeen, where he was arrested. The suspect (42) has been charged and is expected to appear before the Harrismith Magistrate Court on Tuesday, 25 March 2025, facing a charge of murder.
