Kidnapped businessman rescued, wanted Mozambican kidnapper fatally wounded

KEMPTON PARK - The South African Police Service (SAPS) Anti-Kidnapping Task Team has safely reunited an Indian businessman with his family following a shootout with an alleged mastermind behind the businessman’s kidnapping. The businessman was found in Alexandra in a shack shortly after midnight on Thursday, 04 September 2025. His rescue follows a shooting in which the alleged mastermind behind his kidnapping was shot and killed during confrontation with police officers near the R21 in Kempton Park on Wednesday evening. The suspect who goes by the nickname “Dollarman” is a wanted kidnapping kingpin in both SA and in Mozambique. He is on SERNIC which is Mozambique’s wanted persons database where he was a wanted for several kidnapping for ransoms cases. In SA he was also linked to at least five kidnapping for ransom cases as well as other cases of housebreaking, carjacking and possession of unlicensed firearms. TRAGIC: Mini bus taxi and bakkie collision claim more than 10 lives on R40 road

LIMPOPO - The MEC for Transport and Community Safety, Violet Mathye, is deeply saddened by the tragic loss of life following a horrific accident involving a minibus taxi and a bakkie on the R40 road, near Klaserie, Maruleng Municipality, Mopani District.

The accident, which occurred early this morning (Saturday, 8 February), resulted in the deaths and serious injuries of those involved. Preliminary reports indicate that 10 passengers from the minibus taxi and three from the bakkie have died. Three critically injured passengers have been transported to Tinswalo Hospital for medical attention.

"I am deeply shocked and saddened by this tragic incident," said MEC Mathye. "My heartfelt condolences go out to the families, next of kin, and the broader community who have lost loved ones. I wish a speedy recovery to those who sustained injuries."

An investigation into the cause of the accident is currently underway. MEC Mathye urged motorists to exercise extreme caution on all major routes.

The Department will provide updates on the investigation as more information becomes available.
