Kidnapped businessman rescued, wanted Mozambican kidnapper fatally wounded

KEMPTON PARK - The South African Police Service (SAPS) Anti-Kidnapping Task Team has safely reunited an Indian businessman with his family following a shootout with an alleged mastermind behind the businessman’s kidnapping. The businessman was found in Alexandra in a shack shortly after midnight on Thursday, 04 September 2025. His rescue follows a shooting in which the alleged mastermind behind his kidnapping was shot and killed during confrontation with police officers near the R21 in Kempton Park on Wednesday evening. The suspect who goes by the nickname “Dollarman” is a wanted kidnapping kingpin in both SA and in Mozambique. He is on SERNIC which is Mozambique’s wanted persons database where he was a wanted for several kidnapping for ransoms cases. In SA he was also linked to at least five kidnapping for ransom cases as well as other cases of housebreaking, carjacking and possession of unlicensed firearms. SORRY: Minister of Electricity Kgosientsho Ramokgopa apologises for Loadshedding

PRETORIA - Minister of Electricity Kgosientsho Ramokgopa has apologised to the country for the sudden disruption in power supply.

Loadshedding has returned in different Stages - causing disruption to households and businesses across the country.

"I would like to take this opportunity to express my most sincere apology for the gross inconvenience and disruption inflicted on households, business and industry as a result of loadshedding experienced over the past 3 days. Loadshedding of any intensity should never be normalised in our country," said Ramokgopa.

"I also want thank the competent, skilled, patriotic and hard working men and women of ESKOM led by the Group CEO Mr. Dan Marokane for returning the generating units swiftly back into operation," he added.

Ramokgopa went on to give his assurance that they are working hard to eliminate loadshedding permanently in our country. 

"As we do this we are likely to suffer temporary setbacks as we did recently but we will prevail at the end. 

"I will soon be announcing comprehensive measures to end load-reduction in our villages, townships and suburbs. We are determined to achieve electricity for ALL that is always available, affordable and of quality".
