JUST IN: Truck crash and diesel spillage cause total road closure of N1

JOHANNESURG - Following the earlier motor vehicle accident involving two trucks on the N1 South before Maraisburg Road, the Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) has confirmedt that all lanes of the N1 South are closed to traffic. According to JMPD, this closure is necessary to allow emergency personnel to safely manage the scene and clear the diesel spillage and overturned vehicle. "Three slight injuries have been reported, and one of the trucks has overturned, spilling diesel. Emergency personnel and Law Enforcement are on scene, and initially, three lanes were affected and closed off, causing heavy delays. "All lanes of the N1 South are currently closed before Maraisburg Road. Vehicles are being diverted at Gordon Road. Significant and heavy traffic congestion is being experienced on the N1 South and surrounding areas," said JMPD. President Ramaphosa looks forward to engaging US President Trump

PRETORIA - Following threats to withdraw support from South Africa from United States President Donald Trump, the South African government has clarified its mandate regarding the newly passed Land Expropriation Bill.

Addressing President Trump, Ramaphosa said:


 South Africa is a constitutional democracy that is deeply rooted in the rule of law, justice and equality. The South African Government has not confiscated any land.

The recently adopted Expropriation Act is not a confiscation instrument, but a constitutionally mandated legal process that ensures public access to land in an equitable and just manner as guided by the Constitution. South Africa, like the United States of America and other countries, has always had expropriation laws that balance the need for public usage of land and the protection of rights of property owners.  

We look forward to engaging with the Trump administration over our land reform policy and issues of bilateral interest. We are certain that out of those engagements, we will share a better and common understanding over these matters. 

The US remains a key strategic political and trade partner for South Africa. With the exception of PEPFAR Aid, which constitutes 17% of South Africa’s HIV/AIDS programme, there is no other funding that is received by South Africa from the United States.

DURBAN - A family Pitbull was stabbed in the chest after it attacked four members of a family aged between 10 and 76. Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) received several  frantic calls for immediate assistance from residents from Tottenham Road in Parkgate about. 17:41 on Friday afternoon.  Reaction Officers and Paramedics converged on the scene and  found four people that had suffered extensive injuries and blood loss after being attacked by a 2.5 year old Pitbull named Patches. Paramedics stabalized and expedited the injured to a local hospital.  Reaction Officers found Patches on the premise with a stab wound to the chest. The Pitbull was still breathing and immediate assistance was sought from the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) to assist the animal.  According to witnesses, the family was preparing meals to break fast when the Pitbull attacked the 10 year old child. Eleven suspects intercepted for illegal mining in Gauteng

KINSGWAY - The Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD) Intervention Unit Officers in conjunction with EMPD K9 Unit Officers, arrested 11 undocumented foreign nationals males between the ages of twenty (20) and fifty(50) years old, for illegal mining and contravention of the Immigration Act in the Kingsway area on Tuesday, 7 May.   According to EMPD, Officers carried out a sting operation as part to help curb the high number of illegal mining activities in the City of Ekurhuleni.
