JUST IN: Truck crash and diesel spillage cause total road closure of N1

JOHANNESURG - Following the earlier motor vehicle accident involving two trucks on the N1 South before Maraisburg Road, the Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) has confirmedt that all lanes of the N1 South are closed to traffic. According to JMPD, this closure is necessary to allow emergency personnel to safely manage the scene and clear the diesel spillage and overturned vehicle. "Three slight injuries have been reported, and one of the trucks has overturned, spilling diesel. Emergency personnel and Law Enforcement are on scene, and initially, three lanes were affected and closed off, causing heavy delays. "All lanes of the N1 South are currently closed before Maraisburg Road. Vehicles are being diverted at Gordon Road. Significant and heavy traffic congestion is being experienced on the N1 South and surrounding areas," said JMPD. METRO FM Music Awards 2025 nominees announced - SEE LIST:

JOHANNESURG - South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC) is proud to announce the nominees for the METRO FM Music Awards 2025. These nominations feature music singles and albums released between 28 February 2024 and 28 February 2025.

This year, the station received an impressive 2,769 entries across 19 categories, a significant increase from last year’s 1,700 entries.

Amapiano continues to lead the pack, with genre kings Kabza De Small, DJ Maphorisa, and Scotts Maphuma topping the list with four (4) nominations each. iNkabi Nation’s Sjava follows closely with three (3) nominations, while Hip hop royalty, Kwesta and Cassper Nyovest also secured three (3) nominations each.

METRO FM also unveiled the much-awaited theme for this year’s ceremony. This year’s theme is “Crowning Greatness”. “Crowning Greatness”, elevates the achievements of those who shape the South African cultural narrative. It is a celebration of Black Royalty – a night where hits are not only celebrated but become timeless pieces of our shared legacy. Honouring the fact that the evening is more than an award show; it’s a coronation, where artists are crowned as cultural icons, and their contributions are immortalized.

The METRO FM Music Awards 2025 will take place on Saturday, 03 May 2025 at Mbombela Stadium in Mpumalanga and will be broadcast live on SABC1.

The METRO FM Music Awards 2025 is proudly hosted by the Mpumalanga Provincial Government (Mbombela Stadium, 3 May 2025) and sponsored by the Motsepe Foundation.

In an effort to add more value to the awards, the Motsepe Foundation will be providing a cash prize of R50,000 to each category winner, and a grand prize of R150,000 to the Song of the Year winner.

The Motsepe Foundation is sponsoring the Song of the Year and the Lifetime Achievement award and African Fashion International (AFI) is supporting the Best Styled category. Santam, remains a proud supporter of the Best Artist category. Additionally, METRO FM is pleased to announce SAMPRA, as the sponsor of the prestigious Artist of the year.

GRAPHIC: Pitbull stabbed to death after attacking its owners, injuring four family members

DURBAN - A family Pitbull was stabbed in the chest after it attacked four members of a family aged between 10 and 76. Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) received several  frantic calls for immediate assistance from residents from Tottenham Road in Parkgate about. 17:41 on Friday afternoon.  Reaction Officers and Paramedics converged on the scene and  found four people that had suffered extensive injuries and blood loss after being attacked by a 2.5 year old Pitbull named Patches. Paramedics stabalized and expedited the injured to a local hospital.  Reaction Officers found Patches on the premise with a stab wound to the chest. The Pitbull was still breathing and immediate assistance was sought from the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) to assist the animal.  According to witnesses, the family was preparing meals to break fast when the Pitbull attacked the 10 year old child. Eleven suspects intercepted for illegal mining in Gauteng

KINSGWAY - The Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD) Intervention Unit Officers in conjunction with EMPD K9 Unit Officers, arrested 11 undocumented foreign nationals males between the ages of twenty (20) and fifty(50) years old, for illegal mining and contravention of the Immigration Act in the Kingsway area on Tuesday, 7 May.   According to EMPD, Officers carried out a sting operation as part to help curb the high number of illegal mining activities in the City of Ekurhuleni.
