Kidnapped businessman rescued, wanted Mozambican kidnapper fatally wounded

KEMPTON PARK - The South African Police Service (SAPS) Anti-Kidnapping Task Team has safely reunited an Indian businessman with his family following a shootout with an alleged mastermind behind the businessman’s kidnapping. The businessman was found in Alexandra in a shack shortly after midnight on Thursday, 04 September 2025. His rescue follows a shooting in which the alleged mastermind behind his kidnapping was shot and killed during confrontation with police officers near the R21 in Kempton Park on Wednesday evening. The suspect who goes by the nickname “Dollarman” is a wanted kidnapping kingpin in both SA and in Mozambique. He is on SERNIC which is Mozambique’s wanted persons database where he was a wanted for several kidnapping for ransoms cases. In SA he was also linked to at least five kidnapping for ransom cases as well as other cases of housebreaking, carjacking and possession of unlicensed firearms. HAWKS, RTMC arrest five suspects for license dept corruption

 
LIMPOPO - Five suspects between the ages of 33 and 63 were arrested in a joint operation by the Hawks Serious Corruption Investigation and the Road Traffic Management Cooperation (RTMC) at Lephalale Local Municipality on Friday, 7 February.
 
During 2021, the office of the Serious Corruption Investigation received complaints about officials who were issuing learners and driver's licenses without following proper procedures in return for gratification at Lephalale Test Station.
 
The investigation - named Operation Combination - was launched, and it was detected that indeed several unlawful activities were done. After completing the investigations, the Hawks referred the matter to the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) for decision. Subsequently, warrants to arrest the suspects were authorized.
 
A joint operation between the Hawks Serious Corruption Investigation and the RTMC was conducted.
 
The team successfully arrested five suspects at Lephalale Testing Station which managed by Lephalale Municipality.
 
The suspects are scheduled to appear in Lephalale Magistrate's Court on 10 February. More arrests are imminent.
 
The Acting Provincial Head of the Hawks in Limpopo Province Brigadier Desmond Alexander hailed the team for their excellent work.
 
RTMC CEO, Advocate Makhosini Msibi welcomed the arrest and said it will assist in making the roads safer.
 
Evidence shows that errors made by incompetent drivers who obtained their licences fraudulently, are a major contributor to road crashes and fatalities.
 
Advocate Msibi said applicants who benefitted from these alleged corrupt practices must also face the full might of the law.
