JUST IN: Truck crash and diesel spillage cause total road closure of N1

JOHANNESURG - Following the earlier motor vehicle accident involving two trucks on the N1 South before Maraisburg Road, the Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) has confirmedt that all lanes of the N1 South are closed to traffic. According to JMPD, this closure is necessary to allow emergency personnel to safely manage the scene and clear the diesel spillage and overturned vehicle. "Three slight injuries have been reported, and one of the trucks has overturned, spilling diesel. Emergency personnel and Law Enforcement are on scene, and initially, three lanes were affected and closed off, causing heavy delays. "All lanes of the N1 South are currently closed before Maraisburg Road. Vehicles are being diverted at Gordon Road. Significant and heavy traffic congestion is being experienced on the N1 South and surrounding areas," said JMPD. TRAGIC: IFP President's vehicle involved in fatal accident

STANGER - An IFP fleet vehicle assigned to the IFP President Velenkosini Hlabisa was involved in a single-vehicle fatal accident on the N2 northbound near Stanger on Saturday, 11 January 2025, at approximately 16H30.

Tragically, the driver, who was the sole occupant of the vehicle at the time, was declared deceased at the scene.

Yesterday evening, the IFP President personally visited the family of the deceased driver to convey his condolences and inform them of the tragic news.

"Out of respect for the family's privacy as they notify other relatives, the name of the deceased will not be disclosed at this time," said Ayanda Zulu, the party's spokesperson.

The circumstances surrounding the accident remain unclear and are currently under investigation.

"The IFP extends its deepest condolences to the bereaved family, the IFP President, and his security team during this difficult time," Zulu concluded.
