JUST IN: Truck crash and diesel spillage cause total road closure of N1

JOHANNESURG - Following the earlier motor vehicle accident involving two trucks on the N1 South before Maraisburg Road, the Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) has confirmedt that all lanes of the N1 South are closed to traffic. According to JMPD, this closure is necessary to allow emergency personnel to safely manage the scene and clear the diesel spillage and overturned vehicle. "Three slight injuries have been reported, and one of the trucks has overturned, spilling diesel. Emergency personnel and Law Enforcement are on scene, and initially, three lanes were affected and closed off, causing heavy delays. "All lanes of the N1 South are currently closed before Maraisburg Road. Vehicles are being diverted at Gordon Road. Significant and heavy traffic congestion is being experienced on the N1 South and surrounding areas," said JMPD. Pedestrians struck in Durban fatal collision

DURBAN - A pedestrian was killed when a minibus taxi collided with a light motor vehicle in Durban today, Thursday, 23 January.

The fatal collision happened on the corner of Smith Street and Park Street in the Durban CBD.

ALS Paramedics arrived together with EMRS Paramedics to find the that the taxi, after the collision, had lost control and jumped onto the pavement, colliding into pedestrians before coming to rest against the bus stop. 

Paramedics found two male pedestrians that had been struck. Unfortunately, one male, believed to be in his early twenties, had sustained major injuries and there was nothing that paramedics could do for him and he was declared deceased at the scene. A second male pedestrians, also in his twenties, had sustained serious injuries and was stabilised on scene, before being transported to a nearby hospital for the further care that he required. 

SAPS and Metro Police were in attendance to further probe the accident.
