Kidnapped businessman rescued, wanted Mozambican kidnapper fatally wounded

KEMPTON PARK - The South African Police Service (SAPS) Anti-Kidnapping Task Team has safely reunited an Indian businessman with his family following a shootout with an alleged mastermind behind the businessman’s kidnapping. The businessman was found in Alexandra in a shack shortly after midnight on Thursday, 04 September 2025. His rescue follows a shooting in which the alleged mastermind behind his kidnapping was shot and killed during confrontation with police officers near the R21 in Kempton Park on Wednesday evening. The suspect who goes by the nickname “Dollarman” is a wanted kidnapping kingpin in both SA and in Mozambique. He is on SERNIC which is Mozambique’s wanted persons database where he was a wanted for several kidnapping for ransoms cases. In SA he was also linked to at least five kidnapping for ransom cases as well as other cases of housebreaking, carjacking and possession of unlicensed firearms. Latest SAPS recruitment and selection process explained


The South African Police Service (SAPS) has provided an update about its latest recruitment intake.

This follows numerous enquiries regarding its recruitment process and the selection of entry level police trainees for the 2024/2025 intake.

According to SAPS, the final screening phase of this process is currently underway in all nine provinces which includes interviews being conducted with applicants' next of kin and other community members. Applicants are encouraged to give their full cooperation towards finalising this process.

"The SAPS will, in due course, issue correspondence to notify those applicants who are successful.

"If applicants have not been contacted, please accept that the application was unsuccessful," SAPS notified.

Training is expected to commence in the next few coming weeks, the exact date will be communicated in due course.

RECRUITMENT SUCCESSES

In December 2024, 2 699 newly trained constables graduated and are now deployed to stations and units to bolster SAPS crime combatting efforts.
