Kidnapped businessman rescued, wanted Mozambican kidnapper fatally wounded

KEMPTON PARK - The South African Police Service (SAPS) Anti-Kidnapping Task Team has safely reunited an Indian businessman with his family following a shootout with an alleged mastermind behind the businessman’s kidnapping. The businessman was found in Alexandra in a shack shortly after midnight on Thursday, 04 September 2025. His rescue follows a shooting in which the alleged mastermind behind his kidnapping was shot and killed during confrontation with police officers near the R21 in Kempton Park on Wednesday evening. The suspect who goes by the nickname “Dollarman” is a wanted kidnapping kingpin in both SA and in Mozambique. He is on SERNIC which is Mozambique’s wanted persons database where he was a wanted for several kidnapping for ransoms cases. In SA he was also linked to at least five kidnapping for ransom cases as well as other cases of housebreaking, carjacking and possession of unlicensed firearms. Joburg Metro Police arrests 105 motorists for drunk driving

JOBURG - The Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) conducted intensified roadblocks and patrols across the City of Johannesburg from 13 to 19 January 2025. During this period, a total of 105 motorists were arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol by JMPD officers.

According to JMPD spokesperson Superintendent Xolani Fihla, these arrests were made as part of the JMPD's ongoing commitment to ensuring road safety and reducing alcohol-related crashes. The JMPD deployed officers to various locations throughout the city, focusing on areas known for high traffic volumes and potential hotspots for drunk driving.

"Driving under the influence of alcohol is a serious offence that puts the lives of drivers, passengers, and pedestrians at risk. The JMPD will continue to enforce traffic laws and take strict action against those who choose to drive while intoxicated," he warned.

"We urge all motorists to exercise caution and responsibility on the roads. If you plan to consume alcohol, please make alternative transportation arrangements," Sup Fihla advised.
