Kidnapped businessman rescued, wanted Mozambican kidnapper fatally wounded

KEMPTON PARK - The South African Police Service (SAPS) Anti-Kidnapping Task Team has safely reunited an Indian businessman with his family following a shootout with an alleged mastermind behind the businessman’s kidnapping. The businessman was found in Alexandra in a shack shortly after midnight on Thursday, 04 September 2025. His rescue follows a shooting in which the alleged mastermind behind his kidnapping was shot and killed during confrontation with police officers near the R21 in Kempton Park on Wednesday evening. The suspect who goes by the nickname “Dollarman” is a wanted kidnapping kingpin in both SA and in Mozambique. He is on SERNIC which is Mozambique’s wanted persons database where he was a wanted for several kidnapping for ransoms cases. In SA he was also linked to at least five kidnapping for ransom cases as well as other cases of housebreaking, carjacking and possession of unlicensed firearms. Five suspects arrested for the killing of an on-duty police officer


NELSPRUIT - The Acting Provincial Commissioner of the SAPS in Mpumalanga, Major General (Dr) Zeph Mkhwanazi has welcomed the arrest of five suspects, aged between 29 and 40 believed to be linked to the killing of an on-duty Police Officer, Lieutenant Colonel Piet Pretorius on Thursday, 16 January 2025 in Ermelo in less than 24 hours.

Yesterday, Friday, 17 January, Acting Provincial Commissioner visited the bereaved family of the late, Lt Col Pretorius. 

A vehicle believed to have been used in the commission of the crime has also been found torched this morning next to Extension 7 in Ermelo.

A multi-disciplinary team established by the Acting Provincial Commissioner, consisting of Hawks, Detectives, Intelligence, and a security company, has managed to track and trace the suspects in Nelspruit. As promised, the Acting Provincial Commissioner has highlighted that they will leave no stone unturned in finding these police killers.
