JUST IN: Truck crash and diesel spillage cause total road closure of N1

JOHANNESURG - Following the earlier motor vehicle accident involving two trucks on the N1 South before Maraisburg Road, the Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) has confirmedt that all lanes of the N1 South are closed to traffic. According to JMPD, this closure is necessary to allow emergency personnel to safely manage the scene and clear the diesel spillage and overturned vehicle. "Three slight injuries have been reported, and one of the trucks has overturned, spilling diesel. Emergency personnel and Law Enforcement are on scene, and initially, three lanes were affected and closed off, causing heavy delays. "All lanes of the N1 South are currently closed before Maraisburg Road. Vehicles are being diverted at Gordon Road. Significant and heavy traffic congestion is being experienced on the N1 South and surrounding areas," said JMPD. Eskom issues alert of high risk of loadshedding

JOHANNESURG - After more than 10 months of uninterrupted electricity supply due to the success of the Generation Recovery Plan, Eskom has issued an alert indicating a high risk of loadshedding at short notice.

“This is a potentially temporary setback. Loadshedding is largely behind us due to the structural improvements in our generation fleet. However, over the past seven days, we have experienced several breakdowns that require extended repair times. This has necessitated the use of all our emergency reserves, which now need to be replenished. Consequently, we are closely monitoring the status of our current emergency reserves, and loadshedding up to Stage 4 may be implemented over the weekend.” said Eskom Group Chief Executive, Dan Marokane.

Eskom will issue further updates in due course.

DURBAN - A family Pitbull was stabbed in the chest after it attacked four members of a family aged between 10 and 76. Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) received several  frantic calls for immediate assistance from residents from Tottenham Road in Parkgate about. 17:41 on Friday afternoon.  Reaction Officers and Paramedics converged on the scene and  found four people that had suffered extensive injuries and blood loss after being attacked by a 2.5 year old Pitbull named Patches. Paramedics stabalized and expedited the injured to a local hospital.  Reaction Officers found Patches on the premise with a stab wound to the chest. The Pitbull was still breathing and immediate assistance was sought from the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) to assist the animal.  According to witnesses, the family was preparing meals to break fast when the Pitbull attacked the 10 year old child.
