Durban water supply interrupted due to heatwave causing high demands

The EThekwini Municipality says it is aware of the interruption of water supply to areas supplied by the Durban Heights, Wiggins, Hazelmere, Amanzimtoti, and Midmar Systems.

The systems are under strain due to high consumption, exacerbated by the ongoing heatwave, the Municipality confirmed on Sunday, 5 January.

According to the City, the average water consumption in eThekwini remains very high at 298 litres per capita (person) per day (l/c/d) compared to the international average of 173 l/c/d.

Residents are requested to use water sparingly to help build sufficient water levels at the critical points in all affected systems.

Water tankers have been dispatched to supply affected communities.

The Municipality has apologised for any inconvenience caused.
