JOHANNESURG - Following the earlier motor vehicle accident involving two trucks on the N1 South before Maraisburg Road, the Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) has confirmedt that all lanes of the N1 South are closed to traffic. BOSA: "Matric results marred by hypocrisy and lies"

JOHANNESBURG - Build One South Africa (BOSA) has reflected on the much celebrated matric results, dismissing the pass rate and accusing the Democratic Alliance (DA) for celebrating them.

In a statement, BOSA indicated that the organisation is not surprised by the rank hypocrisy demonstrated by the DA in response to the release of the 2024 matric results last night.

"The DA knows full well that the pass rate of 87.3% announced last night by the Minister of Basic Education – the DA’s Siviwe Gwarube – is deceptive statistical gymnastics," said acting party spokesperson Roger Solomons.

"That is why for decades the DA has in opposition correctly disputed the pass rate announced by government each year, releasing what it calls the 'real' matric pass rate.

"Just six months in national government, and the DA and its own Minister of Basic Education has done a 180-degree U-turn and now promotes and defends what is essentially a lie.

"The DA has chosen power over principle. It is happy to implement the ANC’s misleading education system which continues to strip away the potential of young South Africans. The DA is now not just ANC-lite, it is an implementer of ANC policy.

"We are not surprised that the DA continues to tow the ANC line in exchange for government perks such as luxury cars, VIP protection and ministerial mansions," Solomons argued.

Party President Mmusi Maimane also weighed in on the pass rate.

"Calculating a national pass rate based on 3 subjects passed at 30% and 3 subjects passed at 40% is the biggest game of self delusion from this government," he criticized, adding that he is shocked that the DA is supportive of the results.

"I am truly shocked that the Democratic Alliance is going along with this lie. An average of 35% is not a pass. Scrap this.

"30% is not a pass and never will be, no matter how much the national education department tries to pretend so," said Maimane.

In fighting this pass mark, the BOSA president has created a petition to raise the pass mark to 50%. The petition has reached 15000 signatures so far.
