JUST IN: Truck crash and diesel spillage cause total road closure of N1

JOHANNESURG - Following the earlier motor vehicle accident involving two trucks on the N1 South before Maraisburg Road, the Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) has confirmedt that all lanes of the N1 South are closed to traffic. According to JMPD, this closure is necessary to allow emergency personnel to safely manage the scene and clear the diesel spillage and overturned vehicle. "Three slight injuries have been reported, and one of the trucks has overturned, spilling diesel. Emergency personnel and Law Enforcement are on scene, and initially, three lanes were affected and closed off, causing heavy delays. "All lanes of the N1 South are currently closed before Maraisburg Road. Vehicles are being diverted at Gordon Road. Significant and heavy traffic congestion is being experienced on the N1 South and surrounding areas," said JMPD. Beach CLOSED following shark sighting

Nahoon Beach in the Buffalo City Metropolitan Municipality has been closed for swimming after a shark sighting.

The Metro advised that it is monitoring the situation closely. 

Beach is expected to be reopened tomorrow following safety concerns.

Meanwhile, the Metro's security cluster has been overseeing various operations in the Metro including beach safety, roads and traffic control, events management and the enforcement of Bylaws. 

The cluster is led by the South African Police Services under the command 
of General Wright. 

The cluster constitutes of various satey stakeholders that includes multiple SAPS divisions, and Buffalo City departments including Law enforcement, Traffic, Fire, Health Services, Disaster Management, Beaches, Communications, Electricity, as well as government departments like the Department of Social Development, Traffic, Emergency Services, Correctional Services, Conservation Unit, Home Affairs, the National Prosecution Agency, Justice, Conservation.
