Kaizer Chiefs Chairman befittingly conferred with Wits Honorary Doctorate

JOHANNESBURG - In recognition of his substantial contribution to South Africa’s business landscape over many decades, Kaizer Chiefs Executive Chairman, Dr. Kaizer Motaung, was bestowed with a second honorary doctorate on Tuesday, this time by Wits University’s Faculty of Commerce, Law and Management. Motaung, a successful businessperson, soccer administrator and philanthropist, delivered a speech that struck a chord with graduates from the Faculty of Commerce, Law and Management. He delivered his address after Wits University awarded him an Honorary Doctorate in Commerce on 15 July at the Wits Great Hall. This honour acknowledges his role in the betterment of South African society, the development of soccer in the country, and uplifting disadvantaged youth, amongst others. RIP: Nation honours Former Deputy President David Dabede Mabuza

MPUMALANGA - The nation has gathered to bid farewell and honour the life of service and leadership of Former Deputy President David Dabede Mabuza today, Saturday, 12 July. Mabuza, 64, passed away on Thursday, 3 July 2025, following a short illness. The former Deputy President was honoured with a State Funeral Category 2 which features military and state dignitaries presence. Among those in attendance at the Mpumalanga funeral are  current and former heads of states, head of political parties and general members of the ANC. During his memorial service this week, Mabuza was described as a passionate political leader who cared for the people of this country.

Vusimuzi Matlala case postponed for High Court transfer

SANDTON - The Alexandra Magistrates’ Court has postponed the case against businessman Vusimuzi Matlala to 26 August 2025. Matlala appeared alongside his partner, Sakani Matlala, and co-accused Musa Kekana and Tiego Floyd Mabusela. The State requested the postponement to allow for the centralisation of two dockets received from Pretoria, in which the accused are implicated and to allow for the matter to be transferred to the High Court of South Africa in Johannesburg. The accused face charges of Attempted Murder, Conspiracy to Commit Murder, Fraud and Attempting to Defeat the Ends of Justice. The charges emanate from alleged events that occurred in Johannesburg between 12 and 17 October 2023, during which the accused allegedly conspired to kill Tebogo Thobejane. The State further alleges that they opened fire on Thobejane and two other complainants. PRETORIA - President Cyril Ramaphosa will on Sunday, 13 July 2025, address the nation on developments arising from a public statement by KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner, Lt-Gen Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi, that details allegations against senior political and South African Police Service leadership. President Ramaphosa was attending the BRICS Summit in Brazil on Sunday, 6 July 2025, when General Mkhwanazi outlined numerous allegations at a media briefing. The President undertook to attend to this development on his return from Brazil, in view of the implications for national security. President Ramaphosa has been seized with this matter in recent days and will, following various consultations, take the nation into his confidence at 19h00 on Sunday, 13 July 2025. KZN Govt invests R700 million to fight potholes

UTRECHT - The KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Transport amd Human Settlements Siboniso Duma has pledged an investment of R700 million to fight potholes in Utrecht. “Potholes are the enemies of progress, and we are here to declare a war on them,” Duma announced. SARS extends due date for filing EMP201

SANDTON - South African Revenue Service (SARS) Commissioner, Edward Kieswetter, has extended the due date for EMP201 filing and payment to 14 July 2025. EMP201 is a tax return that is submitted by an employer to SARS on a monthly basis. The extension was granted following the higher than expected volumes that were experienced on Monday which caused SARS systems to take longer to respond than expected.  “We recognise that some employers experienced delays in submitting their monthly EMP201’s and as a result we will consider not imposing penalties and interest in relation to employers who would otherwise have been compliant. “This process of payment is governed by paragraphs 2(1) and 14(2) of the Fourth Schedule to the Income Tax Act 58 of 1962, which provides for the payment of Pay As You Earn (PAYE), Unemployment Insurance Fund (UIF) and Skills Development Levy (SDL), and the submission of the EMP201 form within a period of seven days after the end of the month during w...

SASSA: No social grants have been suspended

JOHANNESURG - The South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) says it has noted commentary about the social grants review process that the Agency is currently undertaking to ascertain the eligibility of identified beneficiaries suspected of having additional income that was not disclosed. SASSA has categorically stated that there has been no suspension of social grants as stated but during the review process, grants get delayed momentarily until a beneficiary has successfully completed the review process. This review is not a punitive measure to deliberately exclude any deserving beneficiary, but it is intended to ensure continued eligibility and prevent misuse of public funds. PRETORIA - President Cyril Ramaphosa has declared that the former Deputy President David Dabede Mabuza will be honoured with a State Funeral Category 2 on Saturday, 12 July 2025. Deputy President Mabuza, 64, passed away on Thursday, 3 July 2025, following a short illness. In terms of the State, Official and Provincial Official Funeral Policy Manual of The Presidency, the State Funeral Category 2 is reserved for the Deputy President of the Republic, an Acting President and Former Deputy Presidents. The State Funeral Category 2 is conducted with prescribed military ceremonial honours. The funeral of Former Deputy President Mabuza will take place in Mpumalanga. Govt concern about blocking of foreign nationals from healthcare services

DURBAN - Government says it has noted with serious concern the reported incidents where certain groups and communities have blocked foreign nationals from accessing healthcare services at public facilities. Government has, in a statement on Saturday, called on all communities to uphold the rule of law, respect human dignity, and continue to work together to build a united and inclusive South Africa.
